Friends of S.M.A.K.
Friends of S.M.A.K. exist since 1957 and is a support-organization for S.M.A.K. Initially its main goal was the foundation of a museum for contemporary art in Ghent. In the meantime this museum excists, so the Friends have shifted their attention to supporting art projects organized by S.M.A.K., and to purchasing artworks for the museum collection. Funds to do this are generated through membership fees and the production and sale of limited editions. Friends of S.M.A.K. keeps its members informed about the art scene by organizing different activities such as lectures, art travels, and gallery & studio visits.
Over the last half century, Friends of S.M.A.K. has made editions with artists such as Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Paul McCarthy, Luc Tuymans, Daniel Buren, Gilbert & George, Marlene Dumas, and many more.
