Dundee Contemporary Arts
Dundee Contemporary Arts is a world-class centre for the development and exhibition of contemporary art and culture. We work with the best national and international artists to create a diverse and inspiring programme across our galleries, cinema, print studio and editions programme. Opened to the public in 1999, DCA has gained a reputation for showing internationally renowned artists early on in their careers. DCA works directly with artists selected through this curatorial programme to develop limited edition artist’s prints.
Uniquely for a gallery of its standing, DCA houses a central facility for the production of printed works, with a generously equipped print workshop at the core of the building and organisation. Print collaborations can therefore be carried out in-house, which maintains the involvement of DCA’s curatorial team.
The print studio team is trained to be fully proficient in all processes, enabling a freedom for the artist to move between processes as the project evolves. Whenever possible we work in a deeply participatory manner, developing a project in the studio with the artist present and actively engaged in the process. Our ambition is to involve the artist in an encounter that will bring them to a new understanding of the potential of print media. Artists have unanimously expressed appreciation of the artist-centred working process that this approach has engendered.
DCA is a registered charity; all funds received from purchases of our Editions contribute directly towards our future activity.
