Kris Martin
°1972, Courtrai (BE) - lives and works in Mullem (BE)
Through sculpture, drawing, photography, performance and intervention, Kris Martin challenges the notion of history and time, by attempting to mark, halt or transcend its inevitable passing. By altering found objects through a subtle re-positioning or intervention, and by re-creating canonical works of art and literature, Martin’s practice can be considered as poetic, deeply contemplative and situated within the traditions of conceptual art.
Kris Martin has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at MoMA PS1, New York; Ghent, S.M.A.K.; Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau; Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn; Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna; CCA Wattis, San Francisco; and K20, Düsseldorf. His work has also been included in several group shows, among others at Tate Modern, London; Witte de With, Rotterdam; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; David Roberts Art Foundation, London; and Fundación la Caixa, Barcelona. Kris Martin also participated in the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011; the 12th Istanbul Biennial in 2011; the 6th Liverpool Biennial in 2010; and the 4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art in 2006.
