PLAKT
For PLAKT, we invite artists to create works that are printed as blueback posters and pasted across the city—in places where people live, work, and walk every day. These are the same posters used to announce concerts, parties, and theater shows, and they are put up by ‘plakkers’, distribution professionals armed with posters and paste to spreak awareness of an event around town. By teaming up with them, we hand over control, letting them decide where and when these artworks will appear.
PLAKT embraces spontaneity and unpredictability. The posters pop up in unexpected spots and disappear just as quickly, keeping in step with the uncontrollable, fleeting nature of city life. Like moments that come and go without warning, the art becomes part of the city’s rhythm, slipping by unnoticed or catching you by surprise.
At its heart, PLAKT is about creating unexpected encounters—brief moments of joy, curiosity, or reflection. Whether it’s a quick pause during a busy day or a smile on a familiar street corner, these artworks aim to connect art with the everyday, reminding us to live in the moment and embrace the unexpected nature of life.
The first artworks for PLAKT have been created by Céline Mathieu, Michel François, Camille Picquot, Peter Downsbrough, Shervin/e Sheikh Rezaei, and Mekhitar Garabedian. We are spreading over 300 copies of each artwork across the public spaces of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt, Kortrijk, Leuven, and Mechelen. Exactly when and where? We don’t know—that’s part of the beauty.
