Tomas Saraceno

Tomás Saraceno’s artistic practice, consisting of sculptures, installations, photographs and prints, could be seen as an on-going research, informed by the worlds of art, architecture, natural sciences and engineering. His floating sculptures and interactive installations propose and explore new, sustainable ways of inhabiting and sensing the environment. In this way Saraceno develops engaging proposals and models that invite viewers to conceptualize innovative ways of living and interacting with one another, and with their surroundings at large.
Tomás Saraceno has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at K21, Düsseldorf; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. His work has been shown in several group exhibitions at venues such as Louvre, Paris; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; IMMA, Dublin; and MMK, Frankfurt. In 2009, Saraceno presented a major installation at the Italian Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennial, Venice.
His work is presently represented in the collections of the MoMA in New York; SFMOMA, San Francisco; and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Calder Prize.
