Tal R

°1967, Tel Aviv (IL) – lives and works in Copenhagen (DK)

In recent years, Tal R (Tal Rozenzweig) has become one of the leading international contemporary artists. With crude brush strokes from a flamboyant colour palette, Tal R employs a very characteristic expressive way of painting with imagery that seems both naive and complex. Appropriating a wide array of imagery, figurative and abstract, from high and low culture, the artist often has used the word kolbojnik, meaning ‘leftovers’ in Hebrew. In addition to painting, Tal R also works with sculpture, installation, prints, collages, textiles, drawings and videos.

Tal R has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Louisiana Museum, Copenhagen; Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach; and Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich. His work has been shown in several group exhibitions at venues such as MASS Moca, Massachusetts; Kunstmuseum Arhus; Royal Academy of Arts, London; and Moderna Museet.

Tal R’s work is represented in many public collections, including Louisiana, Humlebæk; Art Institute of Chicago; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; and Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht.
