Sebastian Black painted new gouaches to commemorate his book gathering works from his Local Warming series. Each composition is a 1:1 scale depiction of a thermal image on Black’s iPhone screen.
Black used paper stencils to hand-copy five works per composition.

In searching for a way to discribe the paintings of Sebastian Black, organic cubism comes to mind. His images are built up from fragmented abstract forms in warm colours – often depicting his favourite motif: a puppy face geometrically pared to the point of near-total abstraction.
Solo exhibitions of Sabastian Black’s work have been held at C L E A R I N G, New York and Brussels; Balice Hertling, Paris; Croy Nielsen, Berlin, DE; and Karma, New York. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Andtrax, Mallorca; as well as Hauser & Wirth, Marlborough, JTT, Rachel Uffner, New York.Sebastian Black’s work is part of the collections of Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; MAMCO, Geneva; Modern Forms, London.
