about this work

Geert Goiris’ Left Bank is a new limited edition print from our PLAKT series. This enigmatic image shows a close-up of silky webs often found on trees and bushes in late spring. The fragile structure appears architectural, like a gate or veil between worlds. As in many of Goiris’ images, the formal quality of a membrane plays a central role—something that pushes against a surface, or in this case, draws you inward.

All PLAKT editions can be presented in Valérian Goalec’ Act 24.3. This work functions as a stand-alone wall sculpture, but also as a support for the print editions in this series. Act 24.3 comes with four strong magnets to mount and easily change prints.

about Geert Goiris

The photographs of Geert Goiris often denote a fundamental tension between man and nature. He documents unusual encounters with subjects that appear distinctly out of place and shows strange, abandoned urban environments with a hint of nostalgia, solitude and drama or utopian landscapes with traces of human presence. By regularly taking the viewpoint of the ‘outsider’, Goiris creates a tangible distance between photographer and subject. As he plays with form, abstraction, light and depth, all sense of time and space is banished using prolonged photographic exposure to reflect the unnaturalness of the situations he encounters; a style which the artist himself describes as “Traumatic Realism”.
