about Alexandre da Cunha
Alexandre da Cunha deals in his work with found and cheap or unpretentious materials, which originate from the domestic environment. In these apparently altered pieces, the implications of the political appear are presented through the precarious and banal. Assembling a different kind of materials, da Cunha thus reinterprets their implicit meanings. Recent work of the artist directly refers to the art systems and to Modernism: through the use of low-cost materials, he scrutinizes the perception and cognition of art as well as its value.
