Koenraad Dedobbeleer
°1975, Halle (BE) – lives and works in Brussels (BE)
In his objects, installations, photographs and media projects, Koenraad Dedobbeleer develops new perspectives on our collective knowledge. His works usually take their cue from situations or objects that he encounters in everyday life; in particular architectural aspects or objects used to shape our personal living space.
Another important part of his approach is the artistic tradition of the avant-garde to which he often refers in his distortion of the familiar. Dedobbeleer does this through minimal shifts in shape, size or materials, surprising combinations and bizarre, commanding titles.
Koenraad Dedobbeleer has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Kunstmuseum St. Gallen; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach; and Kunsthalle Bern. His work has been shown in several group exhibitions at venues such as Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; S.M.A.K., Ghent; WIELS, Brussels; and M HKA, Antwerp. Dedobbeleer also took part in the Biennal in Brno in 2014 and Porto Alegre in 2013. Koenraad Dedobbeleer has curated exhibitions himself, among others, at Galerie Micheline Szwajcer and at MuZEE Ostende. He also publishes UP, a fanzine focusing on interesting architectures, together with Kris Krimpe since 2006.
