about this work

Mixed Feelings (2014) is a unique variation (in colour and image) of 20 varnished three-layer silkscreen prints. They are extremely delicate and inspired by her short 16mm film Celebration (2013). For this edition, Isabelle extracted two animated images from Disney cartoons and mixed them with compositions of solarized objects. In this sense, both the cartoon images and the objects are found ready-made, reflecting the superposition and transparencies in the movie.

Isabelle Cornaro has created Mixed Feelings to accompany the Beware Wet Paint group show of individual paintings by artists for whom painting forms a single strand within a multidisciplinary practice. Beware Wet Paint at ICA in London features Korakrit Arunanondchai, Isabelle Cornaro, Jeff Elrod, Nikolas Gambaroff, Parker Ito, David Ostrowski, Pamela Rosenkranz, Ned Vena and Christopher Wool.

about Isabelle Cornaro

Isabelle Cornaro employs painting, sculpture, installation, and film in her quest to challenge the way viewers perceive reality, dictated historically and culturally. As such Cornaro plays with the aesthetics of both everyday objects and artworks by integrating them formally or conceptually into a new context, with great sensitivity to texture, material and colour. Cornaro is an art historian specialized in sixteenth and seventeenth-century Western art, therefore her work is strongly associated with the forms and compositions from the past, ranging from the baroque or classicism to modernistic abstraction.
