VIDEO:
Dirk Braeckman at the Belgian pavilion of this year’s Venice Biennale

We’re proud to announce a new partnership with ARTtube, the Dutch online video channel about art . Every two weeks we’ll share one of our favourite videos from their archive.

We start of this new series with a video of Dirk Braeckman’s exhibition in the Belgian pavilion of this years Venice Biennale. In his enigmatic photographs, Braeckman creates a closed, isolated world in which combines tactility and texture, distance and intimacy. His monumental works tell us nothing; yet they suggest entire stories. Braeckman reflects on the photographic image and challenges the illusions of the medium. In his creative process, the artist experiments with textures and materials. He examines effects such as over- and under-exposure through a variety of printing techniques. His images exceed the moment of capturing and reach beyond their frame. Braeckman finds the subjects for his photographic work in his immediate environment. They are often undefined places or spaces, preferably interior views. For the Biennale, Dirk Braeckman created a new set of monumental photos and presents these with a selection of older works.

ARTtube is an online video channel about art and design, with videos by museums and art institutions in the Netherlands and Belgium. On ARTtube you can find special interviews with and video portraits of prominent artists and designers. Museums and art institutions offer a glimpse behind the scenes at the build-up of exhibitions or the restoration of works of art and let their curators and conservators have their say.  Browse through their collection of over 800 videos on their own website: ARTtube.nl. Every two weeks we’ll share one of our favourite videos from their archive.
