Navid Nuur:
FUNNELFLUX – at Be-Part, Waregem
FUNNELFLUX is the title of the first major solo exhibition of Navid Nuur in Belgium. This exhibition is a cross-section of his oeuvre, combining both existing loan from public & private collections, new works and a site-specific installation produced especially for this exhibition.
Navid Nuur does not like to call his works ‘sculptures’ or ‘installations’, he prefers the term ‘interim modules’ – objects that are created according to rules and laws that he defines. From a conceptual approach, works take form from a logical line of thought, as if they are choosing their own material. Nuur looks for those places where others have not yet been and doesn’t shy away from alchemical practices. Language and physical experiences (seeing, hearing, smelling, …) are recurring elements in his work.
In the exhibition FUNNELFLUX, the relationship with the architecture of the Be-Part spaces is an important starting point. Navid Nuur does not make site-specific works in the sense that the works have been made especially for these exhibition spaces, but a number of thoughts and ideas that were floating around the artist’s mind for some time now, found their concrete form for the first time in FUNNELFLUX. The spaces of Be-Part function as the keystone so that Nuur’s work can ultimately exist. Navid Nuur channels a flux of ideas and questions that relate to the specific conditions of the spaces of Be-Part.
