Hyperlinks or It Didn’t Happen is without doubt one of the best videos we have seen in recent years. We’ve been wanting to share it, show it to everybody we know, since the moment we first saw it. Unfortunately it’s very hard to come by online, and both artist and gallery and not keen on sharing the password protected vimeo to a large public. They did however for Vdrome, Italian Mousse Magazine’s online platform that offers regular screenings, each for a limited period of time –  as in a movie theatre. So until June 11 you can finally watch the full version of Cécile B. Evans’ Hyperlinks or It Didn’t Happen online.

Hyperlinks or It Didn’t Happen is narrated by the failed CGI rendering of a recently deceased actor, PHIL, and follows a group of digital beings—render ghosts, spam bots, holograms—as they search for meaning. Multiple storylines and materials collapse and converge to raise questions about what it means to be materially conscious today and the rights of the personal data we release.

Cécile B. Evans’ new film What the Heart Wants premieres at the 9th Berlin Biennale on June 4th, and a solo exhibition of her work at Barbara Seiler, Zurich opens June 11th – coinciding with the opening weekend of Manifesta 11.
