about this work

Carlotta Bailly-Borg often creates works where bodies stretch, bend, and merge into unfamiliar forms. No One at Noon echoes Bailly-Borg’s wider practice: in this mirror, a fluid figure is hand-sanded into the glass, curving around the circular surface. As you approach, your own reflection overlaps with the contours of her figure, so that its body and yours intertwine. A functional object becomes a poetic encounter, where the simple act of looking is drawn into Bailly-Borg’s ongoing exploration of transformation, intimacy and the ways identity can remain fluid

about Carlotta Bailly-Borg

Carlotta Bailly-Borg creates a visual universe that shifts between the fantastical and the everyday. Her practice spans painting, ceramics, fresco and drawing, and is filled with hybrid figures whose bodies bend, stretch and merge. These figures suggest desire, transformation and the fluidity of identity. They feel rooted in the present while also recalling the stylised imagery of medieval manuscripts, mythological scenes and early ornament.

Carlotta Bailly-Borg draws on a wide range of references, from art history to popular culture, and often works with humour and play. She uses bold contours and inventive compositions to create scenes that are strange yet poetic, inviting viewers to step into a world where forms resist fixed meaning. Her figures seem to hold stories that are open-ended, encouraging us to imagine what lies between them or beyond the frame.
