Always interested in simple materials and traditional ways of processing them, Rodrigo Hernández learned the artisanal process of marble paper during a recent residency at Istanbul Modern’s International Artist Residency Program in Turkey. The title Galata refers to the place where Hernández learned to marble paper – in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Istanbul.
The painting depicts a human figure constructed around the number 7, and is one of the seven paintings on paper Rodrigo Hernández made in the context of our public project Billboard Series.
