Herrero created a mural on the playground of Pelican housing estate which backs onto the South London Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>For his residency Herrero worked with residents on the estate to create a site-specific artwork for the children\u2019s playground. The residency was punctuated by a series of informal social events for Pelican residents, involving painting, music and food.<\/p>\n<p>During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the practice of painting in Latin America was neglected as artists turned increasingly to more conceptual strategies.
