Damien Roach

°1980, Kent (UK) – lives and works in London (UK)

Damien Roach's sculptures, projections and installations challenge perception and ask the viewer to rethink the everyday visual forms and structures that surround us. Roach prompts this re-examinantion through subtle and sometimes barely noticeable alterations of found, cheap or unpretentious materials that bear a given social problematic. In this way, these found objects are manipulated to create an on-going project that scratches at the values and status attributed to objects and the spaces they inhabit. Themes as the indefinite and the missing as well as the invisible, are frequent subjects throughout his artistic oeuvre.

Solo exhibitions of Damien Roach include David Roberts Art Foundation, London; La Maison Rouge, Paris; IBID Projects, London; and Arnolfini, Bristol. Roach has had several group exhibitions at international institutions such as the Swiss Institute, New York; Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz; and Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt. He also participated at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005.

Damien Roach's work has been included in Tate Collection, London and the Zabludowicz Collection, London.
