Nick Mauss

°1980, New York (US) – lives and works in New York (US) and Berlin (DE)

Using a variety of materials, ranging from ceramic tablets and wooden panels to glaze, ink, and velvet appliqué, Nick Mauss creates drawings, prints, and paintings that often take on sculptural presence in their presentation. Furthermore he uses a range of different techniques (e.g. rubbing, scraping and printing) to apply marks and colour. In this way Mauss’ works take the mode of drawing, found at the interstices of various media, processes, and histories, and dilates, folds, intensifies, and loosens those gaps to produce a different mode of making art.

Nick Mauss has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Bergen Kunsthall; Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis; Künstlerhaus, Stuttgart; and FRAC Champagne-Ardenne. His work has been shown in several group exhibitions at venues such as MoMA, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and ICA, Philadelphia. His work is represented in many important public collections such as MoMA, New York; Whitney Museum, New York; and MOCA, Los Angeles.
