Loris Gréaud

Conceptual artist Loris Gréaud's practice is characterised by a desire to fuse different fields of knowledge and activity, in a manner that is both futuristic and utopian. His modus operandi is comparable to that of cinematic production (involving collaboration and co-authorship), and he often works with experts from diverse disciplines (including architects, engineers, musicians, historians and scientists). Gréaud's work is orientated to ideas and processes rather than finished form, and his projects are liable to manifest themselves in different ways over time, and to move between rumour and fact.

In 2008, at the age of only 29, Loris Gréaud became the first artist to take over all 40,000 square feet of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Furthermore he has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Musée de Louvre, Paris; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna.

His work has been shown in several group exhibitions at venues such as Whitney Museum, New York; Hayward Gallery, London; New Museum, New York; and CCA Wattis, San Francisco. In the summer of 2011 Gréaud took over the canal entrance of the Arsenale at the 54th Venice Biennale with The Gepetto Pavilion, a colossal sculpture of a 55-foot-long beached whale. His work is represented in many important public collections such as Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Kadist Art Foundation, Paris; and FRAC, Auvergne.
