Pop Cycles (Rocket), 2019 - Sharon Van Overmeiren
about this work
Sharon Van Overmeiren made this work within the context of her Pop Cycles Billboard Series – referencing the visual language of traditional ice cream & popsicle advertisements. For this edition, Van Overmeiren developped the three sculptural props used on the Billboard Series into autonomous (wall) sculptures. While the shapes of these sculptures definetly reference popsicles, Van Overmeiren immediatly distorts this reading by adding historical references to the shapes. This Rocket, for example, refers strongly in form to Anubis, an Ancient Egyptian god of death who is traditionally represented as a jackal or a person with the head of a jackal.
