about this work

The limited edition Première séance 27 janvier 1928, 2013 refers to Gerard Byrne’s installation: A man and a woman make love (2012), which recreates a discussion held on 27 January 1928 by the members of the Surrealist group of artists and writers. This discussion was subsequently published in their journal La révolution surréaliste no. 11. Using actors, Byrne re-staged the discussion in the form of a TV play with a live studio audience, depicting the characters with their eyes closed, contemplating a Surrealist female muse.
