about Rebecca Ann Tess

°1980, Annweiler am Trifels (DE) – lives and works in Frankfurt am Main (DE) and Berlin (DE)

In her artistic practice, Rebecca Ann Tess mainly uses video and found footage imagery. Over the last years, topics of interest have been queer theory as well as film and television history. Her triology Dad Dracula is Dead (2009), A Crime must be Committed (2010) and Home Time Show Time (2012) explore film and TV history. While in the first two parts of the trilogy, the reenactment of stereotypical and oppressive gender roles allows a moment of subversive iterability, the third part grapples with the ideas of TV show formats, US TV Series and the present, making it clear that today, repression and resistance, reality and fiction have become two sides of the same coin.

Rebecca Ann Tess has had solo exhibitions at Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark, Neu-Anspach; Figge von Rosen, Berlin; and Nassausicher Kunstverein, Wiesbaden. Her work was shown in several group exhibitions, such as MOCA, Taipei; National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul; Portikus, Frankfurt; and Villa Romana, Florence. She also participated at the Videonale 12 at Kunstmuseum Bonn in 2009. Her work is also represented in the public collections of Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kultur, Münster; and Villa Romana, Florence.
