Reto Pulfer

°1981, Bern (CH) – lives and works in Berlin (DE).

Self-taught artist Reto Pulfer constructs singular universes, both intuitive and complex kinds of ‘total artworks’, combining installation, sculpture, painting, performance, music and architecture. To create his environments, he adopts a very simple technique close to the crafts and uses basic materials, often recycled, such as bed sheets, cloth, paper and found objects, tinged by an aura.

Pulfer is an artist of method and process and he uses a systematic nomenclature to title his works. At the basis for each of his interventions he invents simple fictional narratives, which he calls ‘mnemonics’.

Among others, Reto Pulfer has had solo shows in Spike Island, Bristol; dispari&dispari project, Reggio Emilia; Kunstverein Arnsberg; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; MAK, Vienna; Kunstverein, Nürnberg; and Musée Régional d’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon.

His works were also featured in several group exhibitions at international institutions, including The Promise of Literature, Soothsaying and Speaking in Tongues at de Vleeshal, Middelburg; Performance as Publishing at Kunsthalle, Basel; David Roberts Art Foundation, London; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; MHKA, Antwerp; and Kunsthalle, Bern.
