about this work

A bandage is often abandoned at the end of the healing process, once the wound is healed or the bandage itself has become worn and redundant. Having experienced several cuts and injuries through his artistic process, Navid Nuur elevates the usually transient bandage to a position of status and value with his unique edition From the cutting collection (2013). Rather than discard the bandage, immortalising the object in this way allows it to survive as a memory of an incident, which was overcome and highlights the contradiction between its previous use to heal and its subsequent loss of function. Cast elegantly in titanium this pendant and chain serves as a reference to the restorative process, which Nuur believes should be celebrated and preserved.

From the cutting collection was published by Parasol Unit on the occasion of the solo exhibition Phantom Fuel by Navid Nuur in 2013.
Includes chain.

about Navid Nuur

°1976, Tehran (IR) – lives and works in The Hague (NL)

The work of Navid Nuur is based on phenomenological experience. He commonly attributes transformative properties to found objects, thereby repositioning their function, meaning and impact in ways that provide viewers with a whole new experience. Whilst often sculptural in form, Nuur’s works are neither sculptures nor installations. Nuur rather uses the term ‘interimodules’ as he considers them “temporary module-like works that feed off each other when they are together”.

Navid Nuur has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and S.M.A.K., Ghent. His work has been shown in several major group exhibitions at venues such as Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and Marta Herford Museum, Herford. He also participated at the Bienal de la Habana in 2015; and the 54th Biennale di Venezia in 2011.
