Matt Mullican

°1951, Santa Monica (US) – lives and works in Berlin (DE) and New York (US).

American artist Matt Mullican is widely recognized as one of the most important artists of his generation. His oeuvre explores one of humanity’s most fundamental needs: our desire to grasp the meaning of human existence and understand the world we inhabit. His conceptual works are grounded in the symbolic meaning of their individual elements. Created in a range of mediums and styles since the 1970s, each of his works contains the seeds of something more universal.

Matt Mullican has had numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at MoMA, New York; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; and Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas.
He has also shown works at the most various international art institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum, New York; MoMA, New York; ICA, London; and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. His work was also included in several Documentas (1982, 1992, and 1997) and he participated at the Venice Biennale in 2013; The Whitney Biennial in 2008; and the Sao Paulo Biennale in 2008.
