about this work

Over the years Armin Linke is creating a vast archive of human activity. Commissioned to develop an artwork for the new Sciences Po Library in Paris, Linke took his chance to shoot a large series of photographs inside the library and inside a few leading economic and cultural institutions in Paris: C2RMF - Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France; BNP Paribas; Conseil d'Etat and Conseil Constitutionel; Ministère de l'Économie, de Finances et du Commerce extérieur; CGT Conféderation générale du travail; Musée du Louvre.

By photographing unnoticed parts of their interiors in a detailed and neutral way, Linke manages to reveal invisible activities of the institutions and at the same time restore beauty in these sites. After installing a permanent exhibition at the library, a brochure was produced to finish the project.

This brochure is offered together with these two original prints. The book reflects on the entire project by giving insight in Linke's work and the genisis of the commission while the prints are open for interpretation, which is also the case for the visitors of the library.

about Armin Linke

°1966, Milan (IT) - lives and works in Milan (IT) and Berlin (DE)

As a photographer and filmmaker Armin Linke combines a range of contemporary image-processing technologies in order to blur the borders between fiction and reality. His artistic practice is concerned with different possibilities of dealing with photographic archives and their respective manifestations, as well as with the interrelations and transformative powers between urban, architectural or spatial functions and the human beings interacting with these environments.

Through work with his own archive, as well as with other historical archives, Linke challenges the conventions of photographic practice, whereby the questions of how photography is installed and displayed become increasingly important. When the artist takes over the role of an exhibition maker in a collective approach, together with artists, designers, architects, historians and curators, narratives are procured on the level of multiple discourses.
